- Born 1960 in Hokkaido.
- Completed a doctoral program at Waseda University Graduate School of Letters, Arts and Sciences (Theater and Film Arts), in 1991.
- Specializes in Japanese theater.
- After working at the Waseda University Theater Museum, took a post at Ritsumeikan University in 1991.
- Currently, leader of the MEXT-sponsored Global COE Program, (Ritsumeikan University) Digital Humanities Center for Japanese Arts and Cultures.
