Definitions of Conformance Test

EtherCAT Conformance Test

“EtherCAT Conformance Test” is a test performed by EtherCAT Test Center which are authorized by ETG.
“EtherCAT Conformance Test” includes in addition to Conformance Test by the Test Tool, Interoperability, Indicators and Labeling Tests.
EtherCAT devices which passed the test are issued written Certifications from ETG and can be used the Conformance Test Mark.
Please refer to ETG website for the latest information.

Conformance Test

Test, in which the conformance of the devices with EtherCAT Specifications is tested with the help of a Conformance Test Tool by the device vendor.
EtherCAT Test Center plays no further role in the in-house Conformance Test.

Test Categories by products

Followings are brief outline of the test categories. Please refer to the Conformance Test Policy on ETG website for details.

Single Device

This test category is for single EtherCAT slave device.

Device Family

This test category is for family products which are derived from a common implementation, share the same communication hardware, identical communication firmware/software.
The entire product family may be validated with two different representatives of them.
If you wish to apply your products to the category, you shall provide the complete list of the product family to be validated.
Additional family members not included in the initial list are subject to normal testing procedure.

Embedded Technology Device

This test category is for embedded technology devices, such as EtherCAT communication interface products. EtherCAT communication related parameters and communication state machines are handled on the interface products, not on the host device. Application related parameters and state machines may be handled on the host device.
Embedded Technology products are tested in combination with a host device.
In case the combination passes the EtherCAT Conformance Test, ETG headquarter issues an EtherCAT Conformance Certificate for the host device product and ipon application of the Embedded Technology device vendor an EtherCAT Conformance Certificate for the Embedded Technology product.

Product Using Conformance Tested Embedded Technology

This test category is for subsequent tests of host devices using a certified Embedded Technology.

First Time Testing/Re-Testing/Extended Testing/ Extra Hours

First Time Testing

“First Time Testing” is literally applied for devices at the first time testing.

Re-Testing

“Retesting” is applied for devices which are failed EtherCAT Conformance Test at least once and are ordered the retesting at the same ETC.

Extended Testing/ Extra Hours

When testing is not completed within the business hour on the scheduled day, ETC may charge the extra fee for the working time per hour.
If the date is crossed, it becomes an extended test category and the test is redone from the beginning.

Case example:

  1. Due to incorrectly or insufficiently pre-configured DuT, ETC spends extra hours for the correction or preparation.
  2. Due to no submission of the required file(s) or documentation(s), ETC spends extra hours or needs to reassign the test schedule to the another day.
  3. Due to noncompliant item(s) of DuT, ETC spends extra hours for the investigation and stands by the the correction from Vendor.
